What is spiritual formation at Chesterton?
At Chesterton, each subject is taught through a Catholic lens, focusing on the dignity of all human life and the truth that happiness comes only through Jesus Christ. This worldview is present in our discussions in each and every subject. It reveals that faith and reason are not opposites but, in fact, are the perfect companions, and lead us to a depth of understanding about ourselves and the world. We are preparing our students for both temporal life and eternal life: to be good citizens and to be saints.
According to the Sacred Congregation for Catholic Education,
The gospel of Jesus Christ and his very person are to inspire and guide the Catholic school in every dimension of its life and activity — its philosophy of education, its curriculum, its community life, its selection of teachers, and even its physical environment.
This is why each school day at Chesterton Academy begins with the celebration of the Mass. It is important to us that our students, faculty, and staff are able to experience daily the love of Christ through the Eucharist.
Every faculty and staff member at Chesterton Academy takes an oath of loyalty to the Magisterium at the beginning of the school year.
Our full-time chaplain, Father Adam Tokashiki PES (Pro Ecclesia Sancta), leads the spiritual life of our school. Assisted by Sister Emy Ychikawa, PES and Brother Joseph Barron PES (Chesterton Academy Class of 2011), Father Adam leads retreats, Adoration, formation classes, and ongoing opportunities for service.
